Bengaluru Stampede: PM Modi calls RCB celebration tragedy ‘absolutely heartrending’, condoles lives lost

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday expressed deep sorrow over the tragic stampede in Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium that claimed at least eleven lives and left several others injured. The incident occurred during a public celebration of Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) title win.

Calling the mishap “absolutely heartrending,” the Prime Minister conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families and offered prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured.

“The mishap in Bengaluru is absolutely heartrending. In this tragic hour, my thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones. I pray that those who are injured have a speedy recovery,” Modi said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

The stampede unfolded as hundreds of fans gathered in Bengaluru to greet the RCB players during a victory procession. Overwhelmed by the unexpectedly large crowd and inadequate arrangements, the celebration quickly turned chaotic.

Emergency responders rushed to the scene, with visuals showing police personnel helping injured spectators and ambulances navigating through panicked crowds.
