pre order: Nintendo Switch pre-order date for US confirmed; launch price of $449.99 to remain unaffected by tariffs

Nintendo on Friday announced that retail pre-orders for the Switch 2 will begin in the US on April 24. The gaming giant also emphasised that the hybrid console will be launched at $449.99, the same price that was announced during the April 2 reveal event. The announcement was long-awaited by American fans as the pre-order was already delayed due to the fears of an escalation of an international trade war.

Nintendo Switch 2: US pre-order earlier delayed over tariffs

On April 4, Nintendo had announced that it was delaying US pre-orders. The company had cited the uncertain market conditions stemming from President Donald Trump’s rapidly evolving tariff policy as the reason behind the decision. The pricing of the bundled offering of Nintendo Switch 2 and Mario Kart World will also remain unaltered, as per the company’s April 18 announcement.

Here’s what Nintendo said on April 18

“At launch, the price for Nintendo Switch 2 in the US will remain as announced on April 2 at $449.99, and the Nintendo Switch 2 + Mario Kart World bundle will remain as announced at $499.99. Pricing for both physical and digital versions of Mario Kart World ($79.99) and Donkey Kong Bananza ($69.99) will also remain unchanged at launch,” Nintendo said in its official release announcing Switch 2’s US pre-order date.

It, however, noted that Nintendo Switch 2 accessories would be subjected to “adjustments” on prices that were announced on April 2, citing “changes in market conditions”.

The communique’s repeated use of “at launch” also reflected the possibility that the prices reiterated by the company may not be permanent in nature. The release also said that future price adjustments for “any” Nintendo product is also possible depending on the “market conditions”.
