Mohammed Shami return: India T20I squad for England series 2025: Mohammed Shami returns to SKY & Co; Rishabh Pant misses out

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday announced India’s 15-member squad for the upcoming IDFC First Bank five-match T20I series against England, beginning on January 22 in Kolkata.

Veteran seamer Mohammed Shami makes a much-anticipated return to the T20I setup after a 14-month absence. The 34-year-old pacer last played in the World Cup final against Australia in Ahmedabad on November 19, 2023. An ankle injury and subsequent surgery sidelined him, with knee swelling keeping him out of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia.

The Men’s Selection Committee has named Suryakumar Yadav as captain, while Axar Patel will serve as his deputy.

The series also sees some fresh faces and promising young talents, with Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, and Rinku Singh earning their spots. Wicketkeepers Sanju Samson and Dhruv Jurel have also been included, leaving no space for Rishabh Pant in the squad.

The five-match T20I series between India and England will kick off on January 22 in Kolkata, with matches scheduled across iconic venues in Chennai, Rajkot, Pune, and Mumbai,
