06 Nov Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka | BAN vs SL Live Score Updates, ICC World Cup 2023: Bangladesh Clinch a Convincing Victory with a Clinical Batting Display
Delhi is witness to a bottom-of-the-table clash on Monday, with two Asian teams – Sri Lanka and Bangladesh – facing each other in the smog-filled city.
Both teams have cancelled a practice session in the build up to Monday’s match, citing bad air quality in the region. However, the situation is unlikely to affect the game itself, for which both teams are raring to go in a bid to salvage what has, so far, been an abysmal campaign.
Sri Lanka come into the clash with the slimmest of chances of making it to the final four, while Bangladesh are entirely out of the contention, sitting second last, with just two points in seven games.
Their opponents haven’t fared much better, either, with the Lankans recently subjected to a 302-run loss at the hands of table toppers India. The Kusal Mendis-led team sit just above the Netherlands – in seventh – on run rate, having scored the same number of points as the Dutch.
Bangladesh’s last match also saw them lose by a big margin, to Pakistan. Bangladesh could manage only 204 runs in the first innings with Pakistan chasing down the total in only 32.3 overs, courtesy of Fakhar Zaman’s 74-ball 81 and Abdullah Shafique’s 69-ball 68.
As it stands, Sri Lanka are likely to have the upper hand in the clash, as they have done historically, winning 42 of the 53 matches played between the teams, while the Bangladeshis have won just nine of those, with two matches not producing a result.
If Sri Lanka lose, they will be out of the tournament, while a win will keep the slimmest of hopes alive, albeit hopes dependant on other teams playing badly.
